Alaska 2013, Day 52, Haines Day 3

Day 52 - Tuesday July 23, 2013

We pick up the ferry tonight at 5:00 so we moved the camper down to one of the pull offs outside of town and parked it until 3:00.

Town Museums

We went to the Bald Eagle Museum, they have a great taxidermy collection of mamals, birds and fish.  After that we went over to the Sheldon Museum, it has Tlingit art and Haines history.

Ferry

We got down to the ferry at 3:00 for a 5:00 departure (Malaspina). We bumped up our Ketchikan to Prince Rupert leg 1 day to give us 1 more day on the way home (maybe Seattle).  Changing our itinerary caused the system some grief and took like 45 minutes to resolve. The boat was a little over 3/4 full. It was sunny and hot when we left Haines, had to turn on the AC in the parking lot.  By the time we got into Juneau it was windy, cold and raining.  Saw a nice rainbow just outside of Juneau. Ferry got in at 9:00 PM, we planned on trying the Mendenhall Lakes State Park CG but when we got there at 9:45 they had gated the CG.  A sign said no entry 10P to 7A.  Later we found they have problems with locals and kids getting into the park after dark.  We tried the Walmart but it had signs up saying no overnight.  We ended up at Spruce Meadows CG, private CG where we stayed last time.
